A date asked me if I would like to be a billionaire. I told him no.
‘I want to conquer the world.’
My name is Rodney and I would like to show you what world conquering looks like.
Rodney is a one of a kind human. He cannot keep still. He is always on the move.
When applying for AIESEC, he was asked his greatest fear. Guess what he said?
“Being still. Not moving.”
Maina’s main MO is being always on the move.
Guess why?
Because he fears that if he stays still, time will move. It will move in a fashion that he has never seen before.
My greatest fear is that I will be 30 and have nothing to show for my life.
This has made me do several things to ensure I keep up with time.
Read and Learn
Napoleon once said there was nothing he valued so much as books and a good education.
I hold that dear unto my life. At 22, I have gulped down over 250 books on different subjects of life.
I have read about religion, business, achievement, politics, world conquest and so much more.
Rodney believes that with knowledge comes empowerment. And so he keeps on growing his knowledge with the hope that it will build unto his world conquering plan.
Musings za Maina
People who read a lot end up having a lot to share. I barely found people my age or around me who found the things I have to say interesting.
I decided to create an avenue for me to build an audience of people who actually want to hear what I want to talk about.
I have a podcast, a blog page on blogger and a Substack channel called ‘Musings za Maina’.
MZM is an expression of my thoughts.
When asked my greatest strength, I say it is my ability to think.
I guess it comes from the accumulation of knowledge. I am always happy to share a thing or two about what I know.
I plan to conquer the world with my ideas. Have blog posts that inspire generations, books that get passed down through generations, podcasts and quotes that will forever be remembered.
I want my musings to be eternal.
Leadership
In highschool, I was a truant. This day in particular, I was in the principal’s office.
Not because I was in soup but because I wanted to talk to him.
He wasn’t there. I decided to wait for him and miss class.
Something told me to look at his computer.
What I saw there changed my brain chemistry.
I had the payslip records of all the staff in the school!
Guess what I saw? The pareto distribution principle in action.
Can you imagine that the difference between what the principal and the deputy principal was getting was 2x?
Then, the deputy principal and the next in command was also 2x!
After that things started to feel normal. A difference of 2k-10k with the lowest earning around Ksh 20,000.
That day, my outlook of life and success completely changed.
I saw how leadership affected everything. I knew that leadership was the way to go.
I made up my mind that I was going to be a leader.
I guess it became my resolve to conquer the world.
AIESEC
I joined university to become a leader. But as fate would have it, politics was not the way for me. AIESEC’s values resonated with me, especially demonstrating integrity.
AIESEC found me in the most ideal way. I was hungry, young and ambitious. I had read and read about leadership and life and was looking to apply everything I was learning.
This was the perfect place for me to practise on my leadership. I joined AIESEC, became a member, a Vice President, an Organizing Committee President and so many more things.
I led meetings, made decisions, was on a board, had a team(s), had mentors, became a model to people and so much more.
This was an awakening like no other. Leadership was mine. I realised that I am not perfect or even good. I was just better than everybody else (at least the majority).
I am going to win not because the game is easy but because the players were not that good. We live in a world of mediocre people so all you have to do to win is be exceptional. Stand out and do things no one else is willing to do.
Shukran + IAN
My first and so far only job was at Impact Africa Network. I was under one of its projects called Shukran. A digital tipping platform.
It was good. Eye opening and crucial for me to it.
I learnt how to win. I learnt how to do business. I learnt how to succeed in business.
People. People. People. People make you win. People make you lose. Get the right people and you will win.
FuKazee
At 21, I started FuKazee, which teaches people to use technology.
I love technology. I love people. I have always wanted to be a teacher.
I am always asking myself how much people can do if they have the right knowledge to use technology.
I was interested in the power of technology to transform economies and lives.
This interest in technology introduced me to AI at only 19.
It was Nov 30 2022 I was just preparing for my examinations.
I heard something called ChatGPT was introduced and decided to see if it could help me with my exams. I got all A’s in case you are wondering.
That was how I got into the world of AI.
At IAN, I was asked by a colleague to show them how to use AI. They told another colleague about how good she got at ChatGPT and he booked a meeting with me. Then another then another. I became the AI guy for the company.
Then I did some free workshops and webinars at the University of Nairobi. The feedback was immense and too good. I noticed postgraduate students really needed help with AI.
FuKazee was born and I focused mainly on teaching postgraduate students on how to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for their studies.
My first company to world domination. I want to see how it goes.
Do you now know who Rodney is?
That is who Rodney is. A visionary, a leader, an entrepreneur. Someone with passion and a goal. Someone who will always take risks to get ahead.
I am a helper, a servant and a curious mind. People are and will always be my biggest investment. I am nothing without people.
