Young man ready for his next step after school
Why This Program

The months after Form 4 can either be wasted or benefit a student.

Without structure, these months can disappear into boredom, delay, and lost confidence. With the right program, they can become the season that gives a student practical skills, stronger thinking, and a serious head start before university begins.

Computer packages are dead

AI now handles the kind of work old Microsoft Word certificates used to signal. Students need AI literacy, collaboration tools, and digital confidence.

Idle months waste momentum

The gap between Form 4 and university is the perfect time to build an edge. Skills compound quickly when students start early.

University will demand this anyway

Presentations, group work, research, online communication, and design tools will be expected from day one. SmartStart makes sure your child is already ahead.

The 4-Week Curriculum

From barely knowing Google Docs to building with AI.

This curriculum is designed to give a student a competitive edge for campus, internships, online gigs, and early job opportunities, so they get to university already able to create value instead of always calling home for cash.

01

Week 1: Computer Basics and Google Workspace

The modern replacement for computer packages.

  • Google Docs for formatting and collaboration
  • Google Sheets with SUM, AVERAGE, IFS, and conditional formatting
  • Drive, Slides, Gmail, and Google Meet
  • Professional file organisation and communication basics
02

Weeks 2 to 3: AI and Prompt Engineering

Students learn what AI is, how it works, and how to use it properly.

  • Hands-on use of ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini
  • Prompt engineering using the Four C's and CRAFT
  • Custom AI assistants with Gems
  • NotebookLM, AI limitations, and ethical use for education
03

Week 4: Design, Business, and Getting Ahead

The creative and entrepreneurial layer that makes SmartStart different.

  • Design principles and Canva poster creation
  • Gamma for decks and presentations
  • Vibe coding simple websites with AI
  • Online gigs, business thinking, and future-focused mindset
04

Every week includes assignments

SmartStart is project-based from start to finish.

  • Formatted essays and documents
  • Spreadsheet exercises and applied formulas
  • Canva posters and AI-generated decks
  • Self-discovery and business exercises powered by AI
Assignments happen after each topic so students practice immediately. They do not just listen to a trainer. They build, submit, improve, and leave with visible work they can show at home and later in university.
The Friday Experience

Fridays are where the mindset shift happens.

Fridays at 124 Manyani East Road are not just classes. They are exposure. Students meet people who are actually building things: entrepreneurs, founders, tech professionals, and ambitious peers who are already moving.

Every Friday, your child steps into a room full of possibility. That is why we strongly encourage physical attendance. It is the moment many students stop seeing themselves as “just a Form 4 leaver” and start realising they can build, create, and earn too.

FAQs

Questions parents are likely to ask before enrolling.

These answers keep the decision practical, clear, and reassuring.

My child is not in Nairobi. Can they still join?
Yes. Monday to Thursday sessions are online. Fridays also have a virtual option, though we strongly recommend physical attendance when possible because of the exposure and networking effect.
Do students really learn in online classes?
Yes. These are interactive and assignment-driven sessions, not passive lectures. Students practise as they learn, then Friday physical time deepens the experience.
Is there a certificate?
Yes. Students who complete the programme and their assignments receive a FuKazee certificate.
My child already knows computers. Is this too basic?
Week 1 may feel like revision for some learners, but Weeks 2 to 4 go much deeper into AI, prompt engineering, design, business thinking, and entrepreneurship. That is where most students accelerate.
What is the difference from a computer package course?
Computer packages mainly teach old software mechanics. SmartStart teaches AI, design, digital communication, research habits, and practical building skills. This is computer literacy for 2026.
How many students are in each cohort?
Only 15 students per cohort, and right now we are communicating 5 slots left. The cap protects personal attention and makes project feedback possible.
What does my child need to participate?
A laptop or smartphone with internet access. The software used in the programme is free or has free versions suitable for the training.
Who teaches the programme?
Rodney Maina, founder of FuKazee, leads the programme, with guest facilitators brought in where specialised insight helps students see bigger possibilities.
